Hello, I appreciate you creating time to be here. My name is Jean Messeroux (he/him) and I am a Licensed Psychotherapist and Wellness Coach serving the New York area. My professional path began in the classroom as a high school educator of over seven years and social worker of two years, during which I developed a passion for learning and building skills to support others’ mental health journeys and self-discoveries. My education path spans from Massachusetts to New York, by which I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English and African-American Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Master of Science Degree in Social Work with an Advanced Clinical Practice Concentration from Columbia University. Beyond my work as a Psychotherapist, I am also a creative entrepreneur practicing photography, design, and creative direction. I explore art and creativity as tools for self-expression, healing, and connection, and encourage my clients to do the same.

BOTTOM LINE UPFRONT…I have all the degrees, certifications, licenses that everyone has and probably more. What really matters is my journey and my ability to help you with yours. I have struggled with depression, anxiety and unresolved trauma. I had moments I didn’t recognize myself. I felt lost and alone. After several years of being in this place, I realized I was doing a poor job of hiding my emotions, life and circumstances from my children. I was teaching them how to be depressed and how not to engage with life. I did not want this version of me to be my legacy. So I sought help. I took action and did the work. Along the way, I finally acknowledged the source of my pain wasn’t only PTSD. It was low self-esteem, unhealthy beliefs and the stories I told myself as a kid. It was the traumas I witnessed and experienced. It was the unfair expectations of masculinity. And the everyday stress of being a melanated man in America. Everything I experienced, the negative thinking, self-destructive behaviors, sexual abuse, unhealthy self-esteem, lack of clarity, being afraid and being paralyzed, all prepared me for purpose and led me to my passion for helping others stop the emotional pain and dysfunctional behaviors created from unresolved issues. My life is an example of how it's possible to overcome the obstacles and barriers that have kept so many bound and imprisoned. I operate from vulnerability and authenticity. I deal with the hard stuff: depression, trauma, suicide, addiction, being stuck and without direction. My superpower is I’m not afraid to walk you through the shadows and the valleys. In fact, I encourage it because it’s necessary to get to the better side. But only with someone experienced like me. How much better would life feel if you had more money, real-solid relationships, you stopped self-sabotaging, you actually showed up & gave the haters a bigger purpose? And how amazing would it be if you were able to have clarity, purpose, and peace? It’s possible. I have witnessed the transformation of hundreds of people. I know it’s possible for you too! For over a decade, I have helped people overcome unresolved issues, create boundaries and have a mindset reset so they can achieve the best possible today. Families and relationships have been restored, addictions and strongholds have been broken. My clients have stopped the cycles of depression, anxiety, self-sabotaging behaviors, and generational curses have been broken. As a result of my clients efforts, they have stopped limiting beliefs and negative thinking. They were able to build confidence, clarity and self-esteem to go after and achive their dreams, have meaningful and fruitful relationships, to have peace and make a lot more money. My name is Aldwin Soumare, and I am a medical graduate of PCOM-GA, an osteopathic medical school near Atlanta GA in 2022. I started neurology residency and realized psychiatry was a place where I could evolve as a quintessential clinician and become an advocate for mental health. In medical school, I engaged in CBT and motivational interviewing with patients across a variety of psychiatric rotations. I currently serve as a podcast co-host for two podcasts, the Melaninwhitecoats and SNMA presents the lounge podcast where we discuss medicine at the intersection of society and culture. I love the opportunity to share optimism and support for my fellow brothers. I have had previous experience with research in how mindfulness/meditation can help individuals with depression in the African American community. In this I created a website where African Americans would come and listen to mindfulness/meditative music and I would guide the meditation sessions. I also serve as a coach for black professionals especially in the medical space and how to navigate trauma, stereotype threat, institutional racism, and discriminatory practices. I am author of the book Tools of Excellence: From Hood to Hooded: A Guide to Becoming the Physician You Dream which is a guide for black men and woman on how they can become physicians. Coming from the hood, I never understood the work and involvement that was necessary to get the Doctor before my last name. I also avail myself to the brothers on the block as a the psych guy to them where I help them ascertain why and how they feel regarding elements in their environment and personal lives. I take joy in being able to instill confidence and provide a source of encouragement utilizing my expertise for them. I also have created and spearheaded barbershop and talk therapy sessions at barber shops in Georgia and have aspirations to continue to do this in NYC where I have relocated. Instinctively, I desired to be involved with expressyourselfblackman as I listened to Kizzle on the Black Wealth Renaissance Podcast earlier today. I have followed the page for quite a while on IG and listen to the podcast actively and love the work that is being done. As a young black male growing up in Jamaica, Queens, there were not many safe havens. It wasn’t until 2015 where Ian Lucas discovered he had a calling to be a clinical social worker as well as in ministry with inner city communities. Ian's experiences range from Foster Care, ACS, Life Coaching, missionary work outside the country, youth ministry to pastoring in NYC. Ian's overall passion has been to break the stigma of counseling and other spaces of healing that has kept people of color from getting the help that they need. Ian longs to see generations of people who are empowered to break the narrative society has written for them and reclaim the power to write their own story, reaching their God-given potential.

Alicia Crooks is a seasoned executive leader and mental health provider with over 12+ year of experience in relationship management and community enrichment. Her diverse background spans to corporate leadership, nonprofit advocacy, and clinical psychology -underscoring her commitment to fostering meaningful connections and positive change. Her dedication to relationship-building led her to establish the Young Black Professionals of Orange County and serve on the Advisory Board of the African American Real Estate Professionals of Los Angeles. Two roles that allowed her to cultivate strategic alliances with community leaders and emerging professionals across Southern California. Complementing her corporate achievements, Alicia embarked on a journey of academic excellence. She earned an MA in Clinical Psychology, specializing in Marriage & Family Therapy. Now in her role as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) & Wellness Life Coach, she leads in developing treatment plans, crafting interventions, and engaging in psychoeducation - showcasing her commitment to fostering wellness among diverse populations.
